Target Audience

Our Radio Drama is called; Sunday Street and is aimed at teenagers as our main theme is gay relationships and gay relationships are more attracted to youths compared to adults. Therefore; we have decided to aim our radio drama to a reasonably wide range of our target audience; both male and female and is very broad which will attract a wide variety of people.
  1. Demographic Breakdown:-
    In terms of demographic research, it is best to demographically research your audience as t profiles a better understanding of your target audience. There are many demographics which may report age, gender, lifestyle and even multi-cultural demographics. Demographics simply breaks down your target audience into more detail. Therefore; the age of our target audience would be 17-25. Our Radio Drama represents both male and female; to prevent any form of bias. We basically aim our target audience to a multi variety of different cultures and lifestyles; therefore our target audience is mainly broad and attracts a wide range of our target audience.
  2. Tastes and Interests:-
    Our Radio Drama would attract those of our target audience who have an interest in relationships; may it be long-distance relationships or even gay relationships. Our target audience would basically have an interest in relationships, in general.
  3. Questionnaires:-
    The questionnaires we produced, which were given to a range of people from our target audience, to give us feedback on how to create our radio drama, according to our target audiences’ preference. For instance, In question six of our questionnaire; we asked; “What type of genre/theme would you listen to, on a radio drama?” This was very important as we were really interested in what type of genre/theme our target audience are most likely interested in. 80% ticked “Comedy” and 20% ticked “Documentary”. As the majority of our target audience ticked “Comedy”, our radio drama also consists of a radio drama which is dedicated to mainly comedy and tragedy; therefore our production is definitely suitable for our target audience as we have included the main theme which our target audience preferred which is “Comedy”. Our seventh question was also quite important as the location of our drama is very important as our seventh question was asking; “Where would you like your preferred radio drama to be located?”. 50% ticked “House” and 50% ticked “Various Locations”. Therefore; our radio drama consists of both a house setting and various locations to attract our target audience. Our eighth question consisted of importance as it asked our target audience; “Why do you like Radio Dramas?”,
    basically, it asked which specific feature our target audience preferred about their particular type of radio drama. 50% of our target audience ticked “Portraits real life issues” and the other Had ticked “dramatic”, this is perfect as our radio drama consists of both drama and it portrays real life issues, such as gay relationships. The Ninth question was the most important as it consisted of what made a perfect and successful radio drama, and because our target audience told us this, it would really come in useful for the production of our radio drama. 20% chose “Good Storyline”, 30% chose “Good Sound Effects” and 50% chose “attracts target audience”. Our Radio dram consists of all these qualities in order to create a professional and successful radio drama.
  4. Similar Media Products:-
    A similar radio drama would be the radio soap drama,”Silver Street”, which is broad casted on BBC Asian Network. These are a few ideas as to why it appeals to its target audience;
  • Storyline; Story lines are initially focused on the lives of a primarily British South Asian community in an English town which has no specific name or place. Themes in this drama are generally related to issues that affect the daily lives of British South Asians, their neighbourhood and the society around them.
    Representation; Silver Street brings together different cultures and generations and is focused on relationships, family and religion. The drama itself reflects the cultural mix of Britain today and basically represents British Asian, Irish and Black people in a non stereotypical way. (Population)
  • Sound Effects: Many sound effects are used within the drama as it is a radio programme which only consists of sound effects throughout the entire drama; such as the sound of a car revving up at the start of an episode to engage the thought of an actual car starting.
    Anchorage: The actual Anchorage, the base of the drama is based upon the emotions and a feeling occurred in an English town and is based on the lives of British South Asian characters.
  • Editing and Sound: There are many sound effects within the drama, such as the sound of rain playing in the background while the characters talk on the drama. Also, music plays in the background while the characters are talking. And, the sound of people in the background to ensure it sounds as if the characters are in an actual pub.

Radio Drama Production (Testing)

Also this week, we have started testing some of our scrip onto the microphones to check the duration of our radio drama and how professionalism must be portrayed. We did this on Friday so we knew the experience, equipemnt and how to record our script with ease and comfort. Therefore; for next week, we wll be ready to record from our script with our characters and will be aware of the equipment we will use and how dfferent tones of speech must be conveyed within our radio drama.

Editing Sound

Last week when we recorded all of the sound effects which were compulsory for our radio drama; we then decided to transform all of our sound effects on our audio recorder, this week, onto our computers. Once we did this, we then each took a few sound effects into consideration by converting all these sound effects into MP3 format which will be used within our radio drama. We converted our sound effects from the sound effects database onto http://media-convert.com/. Once all the sounds for our radio drama were converted, we then decided to edit the onto garage band so they will be ready for our script for next week. Therefore; this week we have converted our sound effects and have edited them onto garage band also.
